Mangaluru: Man accused of raping girl by promising marriage, cheating - held

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Jayant (28) from Murulya in Sullia stands arrested by the police personnel of Kavoor station here. The youth has been accused of developing physical relationship with a girl after extending promise of marriage to her, and then not keeping up the promise.

As per information gathered, Jayant had completed training programme in Industrial Training Institute and was working as designer for a firm located at Kavoor Junction. About eight months back, he came in contact with a Bantwal-based girl working at Kavoor. The two began to love each other. It is said that Jayant earned the trust of the girl by promising to marry her, and developed physical relationship.

After the girl turned pregnant, her close ones took up the matter of marriage with Jayant but he used to put off the proposal on one pretext or the other. Recently he suddenly disappeared without informing anyone. The girl, who had no other option left, filed complaint in Kavoor police station.

The police, who began investigation in the case, arrested the accused from near Kavoor based on specific information. He was produced in the court whereupon he was remanded to two weeks judicial custody.
