Bengaluru: 'No load shedding during summer this year' - energy minister

Bengaluru, Mar 29: The people of the state can rest assured that there will not be any load shedding during this summer. The government has said that there will not be any scheduled or unscheduled load shedding, and agricultural pump sets also will get enough power supply. At the same time, the proposed power tariff hike may also not happen during this period at least till the election.

Addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday March 28, Karnataka energy minister, D K Shivakumar, clarified that load shedding will not be there on account of examination season. "I have instructed the officials to make sure that there  is uninterrupted power supply during summer. Quality power will be provided for drinking water projects and agricultural pump sets. The officials will make sure that farmers will get power most of the time during the day and take action as may be necessary  depending on local circumstances," he explained.

The minister said that his department met demand for power to the extent of 10,177 mw on Tuesday night, and that it is even prepared to meet a thousand mw more if the need for the same arises. "Power generation capacity has reached 10,586 mw in the state now. Therefore we will not face the eventuality to affect power cuts," he stated.

The minister said that he had ensured that the biggest solar park in the country is established in Karnataka,  expanded distribution network, brought down power supply and distribuion loss from 15.3 percent to 13.34 percent, regularized four lac illegal pump sets, and recruited 21,000 employees in his department.
