Kasargod, Mar 28: As the police have suspected that the persons accused of killing Sharanappa Basappa (26) at Katukukke Parlathadka near Perla in the district recently have links with naxals, they have secured their police custody.

Deepak Kumar Salam (25) from Narayanapura in Chhattisgarh, and Geerwar Singh (35) from Mangalgunj in Madhya Pradesh are the accused in this case. The police strongly suspect that Deepak Kular Salam has links with naxal operatives. Accordingly, police circle inspector of Vidyanagar station, Babu Peringoth, had filed application in the court, expressing the opinion that the accused need to be investigated further.

The decomposed body of Sharanappa had been found lying within school compound on December 30, 2017. The police, who formed a special team, had arrested two of the accused, who work in borewell construction. It is said that the accused, who were angered by the fact that they lost heavily when gambling with Sharanappa, fought with him. As Deepak Kumar hit Sharanappa's head with a boulder during this quarrel, he had died. They had kept the body inside their room, and thrown it late night, the police had said.
