Udupi/Mangaluru: SSLC exams begin, tight security in place to prevent malpractice

Udupi, Mar 23: The crucial SSLC exams began all over the state on Friday March 23.

In Udupi district, a total of 14,643, consisting of 7,650 boys and 6,993 girls, are appearing for the exams which are being held at 51 centres in the district.

Visually-challenged students at the School for the Deaf, Blind and Dumb will write the exams with help of scribes.

The education department said in a media release that two flying squads have been constituted and a vigilance officer will visit different centres and conduct surprise checks to detect malpractice. CCTVs have been installed at all examination centers.

A chief inspector has also been appointed for every centre and a custodian too for receiving the question papers. The authorities said that arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of the examinations.

The deputy commissioner has banned movement of outsiders 200 metres around the surroundings of the exam centres.

Police constables too have been appointed to keeping a tight vigil at all centres to prevent any sort of malpractice.


Mangaluru

As many as 32,786 students from Dakshina Kannada, including 17,364 boys and 15,422 girls are appearing for this examinations. This includes 28,966 students of schools, 2,263 repeaters, 125 private candidates and 342 private repeaters.

The number of centres allotted in Dakshina Kannada are 17 in Bantwal, 13 in Beltangady, 21 in city (north), 20 in city (south), four in Moodbidri, 12 in Puttur, and seven in Sullia blocks. Four examination centres meant for private candidates are located in city (north) block.

Vigilance cell, 94 chief superintendents, 31 deputy chief superintendents, and 94 custodians will keep watch over the entire examination process in Dakshina Kannada district.

Prohibitory orders have been issued around 94 centres in which SSLC examination will be conducted from March 23 to April 6 in Dakshina Kannada district. Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, issued prohibitory orders under section 144 for a radius of 200 metres around these centres.

In order to ensure that the examination is held smoothly and no untoward incidents happen in the examination centres, order has been issued to close down xerox centres located around these centres.

During the above period, helping the students to copy answers, writing, distributing or preparing material in slips or other mode and handing them over to students, distribution of other materials or sending them etc have been banned. Carrying of explosives, arms etc in the prohibited area have been banned. Activities like signalling or other activities meant to convey information or details relating to examination have also been banned.

Photocopy centres for a distance of 200 metres from examination centres will remain closed since an hour before the examination to the end of the examination.

These orders will not be applicable for programmes, meetings, or functions being held by the government or under its orders. This order also does not apply to police officers, bank security staff etc carrying batons, firearms etc during duty hours. The order also said that the ban does not apply to programmes being held with the prior permission of the deputy commissioner, subdivisional magistrate or taluk executive magistrate.
