Bengaluru: Boy dies after IT firms gate comes crashing on him

Bengaluru, March 18: In a freak accident, a 12-year-old boy died when a sliding gate of a software firm in Jayanagar came crashing on him on Friday evening.

Manjunath K, a Class 6 student of Vijaya Kannada Higher Primary School and a resident of Jayanagar 6th block is the deceased.

According to SD Sharanappa, DCP (South division), Manjunath was returning home from school. The boy along with his friends stopped to play on the sliding gate of Dassault Systemes, a private IT firm. The gate had trolley wheels and was mounted on a railing. When the children pushed the gate, the wheels slipped from the railing and the gate crashed on Manjunath.

The other two children who were with the victim reportedly ran away from the spot.

Manjunath was severely injured and rushed to Apollo Hospital on a two-wheeler but declared brought dead.

Jayanagar police have registered a case of death due to negligence under the provision of Section 304A against Dassault Systemes. "We will check whether the firm or the guards deployed on duty could be booked for negligence or any other charge causing the death of the boy," a police official told media.

Manjunath lived with his mother Chandramma, who works as a domestic help. He had lost his father a few years ago.
