Dubai, Mar 15: The official release of Konkani drama ‘Aami Nathlya Vellar’ DVD was held recently here in the presence of esteemed Konkani well-wishers, writers, and artistes.
The drama ‘Aami Nathlya Vellar’ written by Marathi writer Madhusudhan Kalelkar has created new waves among Konkani drama lovers. Presented by Daiji Writer’s Forum under the leadership of versatile personality of Konkani Dayan D’Souza Mukamar has traveled most of the Konkani speaking destinations from Dubai, Udupi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kuwait, and Qatar. The drama created history as for the very first time, amateur theatre artistes from UAE had traveled to India and other Gulf countries to present the drama.
Although there was a huge demand to present the drama in different cities like Delhi, Mysuru, Coorg, Muscat, and Bahrain, due to changing economic situations and various others reasons, it was not possible to fulfill the demand of Konkani drama loving audience. Keeping in mind, the regular requests from audience all over the world, Daiji Writers Forum decided to release the drama in a DVD version.
Parish priest of St Mary’s Church Dubai, Fr Robert Lasrado was the chief guest at the DVD release event. He was escorted to the dais by Daiji convener Dinesh Correa along with Mark Denis D’Souza, proprietor, Fortuna Engineering, Joseph Mathias, proprietor, Merit Freight Shipping and forwarding and director Dayan D’Souza Mukamar. All the guests were honored with Daiji Prakashan books instead of traditional flower bouquets.
Dinesh Correa welcomed the gathering for showering their love on Daiji and Konkani. He said that due to continued support, Daiji has been able to give their best towards Konknai in the last two decades. Also, he announced that due to public demand, the next Daiji anniversary will be held in Dubai to mark the 20th anniversary and as a special attraction this time, Daiji will play another well-accepted drama ‘Mumma Retire Zatha’ under the stewardship of Dayan D’Souza Mukamar.
Fr Robert Lasrado in his speech stressed the need of speaking our mother tongue. He expressed his concerns because the present younger generation is neither speaking in Konkani nor teaching Konkani to their children. He applauded the work done by Daiji for uplifting Konkani language, artistes, and writers in particular.
The guests present on the dais released the DVD. Dayan D’Souza spoke on the drama, and different challenges faced during its journey. As a kind gesture towards the artistes, he called the artistes to the stage and the main strengths to make the drama a super hit namely Sandeep D’Souza Mukamaar and Alwyn Pinto. They were honoured with a DVD by the esteemed guests.
Dayan also informed about the new drama ‘Mumma Retire Zatha’ which is a must watch drama for the entire family which portrays the ethics, love, and struggle of a mother to build a respectful family. Also, he promised that he will put his full efforts with the help of his artistes to make this drama a super hit much bigger than ‘Aami Nathlya Vellar’. He also called the main artistes to the stage and distributed the script through the distinguished guests.
Guests Mark Denis D’Souza and Joseph Mathias called on Konkani people not to hesitate to speak their mother tongue.
‘Aami Nathlya Vellar’, is a thrilling social drama, originally a Marathi play by Madhussodhan Kallelkar, later translated to Kannada by Ramananda Choorya (Navilladaga). The play is based on a true life story of a naval commander and his family, which became a sensational case in Maharashtra back in 1959. This play has created a record with over 5,000 shows in Marathi, Kannada, Konkani, and Tulu.
