Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 15: Rain coupled with thunder and strong wind which lashed coastal Karnataka on the evening of Wednesday March 14 brought much-needed relief for the people from rising temperature.

Many places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received normal to heavy rain while the city got normal rainfall on Wednesday evening.

Good rains were reported from Mulky, Suratkal, Sullia, Moodubelle, Puttur, Bantwal, Kadaba, Beltangady, Ullal, Moodbidri, Madanthyar and other places.

Udupi district experienced good rainfall accompanied by thunder. Almost all places including Udupi, Kundapur, Padubidri, Karkala, Shirva, Bajagoli and Brahmavar got good rainfall.

The meteorological department has predicted rainfall to continue for two to three more days as the low pressure area that has been created over Arabian sea is moving towards north-west direction and it is expected to weaken since Thursday evening.

Because of the sudden rainfall, power supply was affected at various places in coastal districts. In some places, power supply was not resumed till midnight. Mescom officials said that problems have arisen in some main lines, and fallen trees and electric poles have compounded the problem. Standing water over bridges and inundated roads gave rise to complications. Five persons were injured after lightning struck them in Bandaru village near Uppinangady. Anand from Darkas House in Bandaru and his family members apart from his neighbour, Umema, were injured. All of them were admitted into private hospital at Uppinangady. There are reports of certain electrical equipments suffering damage in the area.

A cow died and electrical wiring was burnt after the house and cattle shed of Uday Salian from Shirlalu Hunkulbettu in karkala taluk came under lightning. Out of about ten cattle in the shed, one cow died in this incident. A cow also died in Sudemugeru, Beltangady town after a cattle shed caught fire due to lightning. Locals and fire brigade personnel worked together to prevent further damage.

Kasargod, Muleriya, Boikkana, Perla, Badiyadka etc received good rainfall. Mulleriya in particular received heavy rainfall for two hours.

The rainfall had a positive affect on forest fire that was raging in Bhagya protected forest near Kaikamba, Kadaba, where the fire department's efforts were supported by the rainfall which completely put out the forest fire.

Such rains are not regular or seasonal rains. This is due to some faulty weathr conditions and we cannot blame MCC for such water clogging. Enjoy the rain drops it is going to conitue for another three days.

God sees us closely and helps us in the hour of our need.
Forest has no religion, caste , creed and color. Those who live around this area, are lucky to realize this closely and praise God all the time.

We can clearly see flooding and drainage issues during this one rainfall itself. Hopefully the MCC wakes up and prevents it from happening during the full blown monsoon.

I am watching, since a month, the drain paths along the roads are cleared of debris by municipality workers. I watched with shock how much plastic, empty bottles and other waste material come out of them. Imagine today's situation if the clearing-away had not taken place.

If we citizens took a little care and placed the waste materials in bins upon finishing our eatable/drinks, the drains would have been a lot more emptier. That's not all, I took a time out on a week-end and cleared all dry-leaves accumulated around my house. Else, they would have ended up in the drain, again clogging it.

Lets not blame the authorities everything, lets too be responsible.

Agree - each citizen should take responsibility to keep our surroundings clean. Just throwing our garbage out of our house is not going to make us smart people of the forthcoming smart-city. Plastics should be done away with. There are alternatives available today. We must all do our best to keep our birthplace as neat and smart as possible.

Jenifer mangalore, you are right.Still better to avoid as much as possible this plastic in our household.Let us use a jute bag or to avoid plastic bottles.Same bottle can be used for many times .Papers can be used to cover something or make fire.burn it instead of throwing it elsewhere.

    PLASTICS : Follow three R's

    1. Refuse
    2. Reduce
    3. Recycle

"There is no outside in this world to throw plastic waste. It is human habitat or wild habitat"
