Bengaluru, Mar 14: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday March 14 congratulated the Samajwadi Party and the BSP for defeating the BJP in Uttar Pradesh bypolls.
Taking to Twitter, the CM also noted that unity among non-BJP parties had played a key role in defeating the BJP in Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's own constituency.
"BJP has suffered humiliating loss in the Lok Sabha seats held by the CM & DyCM of UP. Congratulations to SP & BSP for this historic victory. Unity among the non-BJP parties has played a key role," Siddaramaiah tweeted.
Taking a dig at Yogi Adityanath, his UP counterpart, Siddaramaiah said, "Perhaps Yogi Adityanath should spend less time lecturing Karnataka on development."
It was an obvious reference to Yogi Adityanath's recent statements on development and crime rate in Karnataka, two issues he referred to even during his recent visit to Mangaluru.
Siddaramaiah had on previous occasions too called upon non-BJP parties to unite in order to defeat the NDA in next year's general elections.
The BJP suffered a huge blow after the Samajwadi Party, backed by BSP, wrested the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, which were vacated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath and deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
