Udupi, Aug 18: Western Range IGP and ANF Commandant A M Prasad announced on Monday August 18, that suspension orders had been issued to the three anti–naxal force (ANF) personnel who were accused of assaulting the picnicking city lawyers at Sirimale Falls, Sringeri, on Saturday August 9.

The IGP has instructed that the three be relieved of their duties. Besides, he has asked for expedited investigations of the criminal cases registered at Sringeri police station against the lawyers. Following the IGP’s assurances, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president, district bar association, called off the protest and relay hunger strike after consulting fellow lawyers on Monday. However, the city lawyers will pursue the case till justice is done.

The suspended personnel are Sanjay Mandli, deputed from fourth battalion of KSRP, Bangalore, Anil Kumar, from B R Madikeri, and Basant Kumar, from Chikmagalur civil police.

Hegde and Dinesh Naik, secretary of the district Bar association, expressed their gratitude to all those who extended support to their cause.

This is a really sad thing. This should not have happened. Punishing the people who did their duty is not what the Police should do.

Its good that these ANF personnel are fired. How dare they help innocent people. Most of the lawyers have been robbing innocent people, now this. Now who will apologise to the people who were violated by the actions of these lawyers.

At a time when the ANF morale had to be high such steps are not welcome. I symapthise with the suspended Police. Even if they had committed any mistake action could have been taken after proper enquiry and if the allegations were found true.

Dear Mr IGP, first of all there is no respect for police force and when your team does something respectful you fire them, Its just like what we see in movie, i am not saying that the cops who you fired are saints, but what they did in sirimane was their duty and every Indians duty. Instead of Rewarding them you have bowed down to these  Lawyers. Please in future conduct a detailed investigation and then give out your verdict. Mera Bharat Mahaan.....Jai Hind

While reading this news article, I felt ashamed on the kind of maturity that was shown by the Police Chief towards the prevailing law of the country. Instead of probing this matter by way of thorough investigation, Mr. Prasad has put the whole police force in shame.

No police personnel will ever dare to intervene if these so called unruly lawyers in the form of Goons will harass any civilian in the days to come. It appears to me that these Lawyers organization affiliated to one particular political party, has brought in heavy pressure through the political bigwig from our city, prompting the IGP to suspend these police personnel.

A big shame on IGP Mr. Prasad for bowing down to the pressure...and a Big Shame to these agitating Lawyers, as the day will arrive soon when these Lawyers family members would be harrassed in the street and the police personnel would do nothing but watching the scene.

This is a shame. Justice has been denied. The IGP should have been firm and conducted a proper investigation, The villagers have accused these lawyers of indecent behaviour and have praised the ANF for comming to their aid.If in the end honest officials are penalized for no fault of their own, what interest in future will they show in serving the state.

This proves that the law of the jungle has prevailed. Political compulsions have won the day, and honest officials have once again ended as lambs for slaughter. Shame on you lawyers of Udipi. You have murdered justice today.

Mr. IGP. It seems that you have bowed down the so called lawyers and the pressure of Bar Council. It is always the case, the powerful wins against the powerless no matter what is their numbers. In the photograph it seems all these lawyers are only posing for photograph and not serious about the cause for what they are fighting.
