Mangaluru, Mar 14: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) founded in 1943 by Fr George Albuquerque Pai SJ and nurtured by the strenuous labours of Fr Philip Neri Capuchin is celebrating its platinum jubilee this year.
KNS, dedicated for the cause of Konkani language and culture, has contributed a lion’s share in the development of Konkani theatre and music.
Since its inception, KNS has staged several social and historical plays, both comedies and tragedies, besides religious plays in Konkani, all in 171 in numbers. Some of them are, Somiyacho Paashanv,Fathimaachi Saaibin, Saint Francis Assisi, Maadthuranchem Zoith, Chritaachem Jonon, Aunkaar Moryechi Katha, David ani Goliyath, Sardaraanchi Sinol,Udenthicho chowtho Raay,Somyaachim Nimaani Baara Voraam etc. accomplishing the motto of the Konkani Natak Sabha ‘Natak Dwaarim Dhaarmik Saadhan’ meaning religious mission through drama.
Since 1965 and thereafter, KNS has been conducting Konkani annual competitions for youth and adults, in singing, fancy dress, elocution, poetry writing, dance, dramas and awarding prizes and trophies. Owing to the presence and assistance of KNS, hundreds of youngsters, namely, drama writers, actors, composers, singers, dancers and public speakers have benefited in diverse ways. At the same time, members of the public have been able to witness value-based plays and enjoy healthy entertainment.

Platimum Jubilee Committee
KNS celebrated silver Jubilee in 1968, golden jubilee in 1993 and diamond jubilee in 2003 in grand manner, with appropriate functions at the Don Bosco Hall. All these events were attended by its benefactors, well-wishers and lovers of Konkani stage.
On the occasion of platinum jubilee, KNS has planned various programmes throughout the year. The inaugural function of the platinum jubilee will be held on March 15 at 5.30 pm at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru. Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza Capuchin, president of KNS will preside over the function. Fr Alwyn Serrao, principal of Padua College of Commerce and Management, Mangaluru will be the chief guest. Veteran actress Mabel Kent will be the guest of honour and renowned actor Dolphy Saldanha will give the platinum jubilee address. The platinum jubilee logo will be launched on this occasion.
The president, vice-president, executive committee and platinum jubilee committee has invited all the well-wishers and lovers of KNS for this inaugural programme.
