Udupi, Mar 14: The locals of Beedinagudde on Tuesday March 13 protested against Udupi municipality council for segregation of garbage dumped in the area thereby polluting the environment.
The government and the district administration have been working diligently to make the city of Udupi dirt-free. The other municipality that should be maintaining cleanliness is trying to ruin the efforts of the government.
On the one hand Udupi is known as clean city, but the heap of garbage just proves that it is an eyewash. Since the last six months, municipality workers are dumping the area with garbage from 32 wards.
With the segregation of waste taking place, a repugnant odour has spread over Beedinagudde and its surrounding area. The municipal authorities have not paid attention to the local council on this regard.
Annoyed by this, the locals have stopped garbage carrying vehicles and shouted at the municipality.
MLAs and local people's representatives have been informed about the problem, but got no response from them. On asking the officials to visit the area they were given the excuse of having to attend a meeting.
After a great struggle, this same dumping yard at Beedinagudde has shifted to Alevoor. Now, the municipal council is once again trying to convert Beedinagudde into a dumping yard. The public's demand is that the municipality stops the segregation of waste immediately and takes quick action.
