Bantwal, Mar 14: Be it weddings or any other function, Sequeira Caterers, one of the leading catering firms of the district have enhanced the event by feeding guests, the delicacies of the region. This year, Sequeira Caterers celebrates an important milestone, its silver jubilee.

However, the 25 year journey has not been a cakewalk, and there are efforts of the Sequeira family, who have strived hard to set a mark in the catering business.

According to Sequeira Caterers Proprietor, Antony Sequeria, the family’s passion for food and cooking excellence should be credited to his father Hilary Sequeira.

It was the year 1955, when a 17-year-old Hilary was appointed as a cook and sacristan to Loretto Church Parish Priest Fr Jerald Miranda. Realizing Hilary’s talent in cooking, the priest suggested him to be a cook of a Mangalurean family and this is where he honed his cooking skills. Hilary started inventing his own dishes.

In the year 1960, Hilary left his job as a cook and settled in Bantwal to look after his ancestral land and agriculture activities. However, Hilary always took up leadership during major cooking events such as parish feasts, weddings etc. With his pleasing personality and the ability to put delicious food on one’s plate, Hilary became famous in Mangaluru and Bantwal.

In the year 1993, Antony like his father became a famous cook in the region. However, he had a dream to setup his own business. When he shared his dream with his family members and friends, all suggested that he start a catering unit. His passion for cooking and motivation from his loved ones made him start ‘Sequeira Caterers’ in Bantwal.

Old memories 

However, like any new business, Antony faced challenges. Transportation and lack of facilities was a major challenge. However, he managed to overcome hurdles with his cooking talent and support from family.

When the business picked up, Antony opened an office and Hotel Prithesh at Bantwal. Antony focused on keeping the menu unique and traditional, which made Sequeira Caterers the most sought after by the Mangalurean community during events.

The firm became famous in Mangaluru, Bantwal and soon orders from other places such as Karkala, Moodbidri, Kasaragod, Puttur, Sullia poured in. Once the customers tasted the items of Sequeira Caterers, they became permanent customers.

Now, Sequeira Caterers which is completing its 25 years of existence is capable of serving 25,000 people in one event. Apart from traditional Mangalurean, they are serving authentic Indian, Chinese and North Indian food with high quality and hygienic setup.
