On March 11, Shareen and Smitha Thackeray were returning from Bantwal as they had to catch a flight at 6:30 pm. During the journey, it is said that driver of the car was busy talking over phone while driving. Shareen Mantri and Smitha Thackeray repeatedly warned the driver three times for using the cell phone. It is also claimed that they narrowly escaped from an accident during that time.
After dropping the phone, driver Dayanand drove the car rashly. Irked with this, both Smitha Thackeray and Shareen stopped the car near Bajpe with the intention of taking another vehicle to reach the airport. This triggered the driver to get down and slap Shareen on her face.
Shareen along with Smitha Thackeray filed a complaint at Kavoor Police station later. Based upon the complaint, police detained the driver and produced him in the court.
Dayanand has been booked under section 279, 504, 354 and 323 of IPC.
