Udupi, Mar 12: Fishermen from south Tamil Nadu and north Kerala coast are warned about the creation of a low pressure area between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka in Bay of Bengal.
As per prediction, the atmospheric pressure might drop in the coast between Kanyakumari and Kozhikode. This is likely to result in high waves. Currently, this area is moving from southern Sri Lanka towards north-west direction. As per the prediction of the meteorological department, waves as high as 2.5 to 3.2 metres might be experienced during the next three days in Kerala coast. Strong wind with a velocity of 60 km per hour may hit Kerala during the next 48 hours.
In this background, the district administration of Dakshina Kannada has asked boats not to venture into the sea for any purpose including fishing. The boats which have already left the shore are asked not to spread their nets in the sea and also not to place nets or heavy things on their decks.
The administration also said that preferably the boats should undertake fishing by staying near one another rather than staying alone so that in case of emergencies they can help one another. Deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, conveyed these instructions to fisheries organizations.
