Mangaluru, Mar 12: "You must approach the government and seek assistance for such a tragic disease which affects both the patient and their familes, which suffer hugely," suggested Dr Ramakrishna Rao, district health and family welfare officer (DHO), while inaugurating the 'Alzheimer's Dementia - understanding and relief - An insight for elders' an Awareness Programme, which was organized jointly by Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF), Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College (KAMC) and Mangalore Alzheimer's Association (MAA) on Saturday March 10 at KAMC premises at Ashoknagar, Mangaluru.
In his welcome address, Prabhakar Rao, Director - Works, MCF Ltd, briefed the huge gathering on the role of MCF towards contributing to society as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
"Former prime minister A B Vajpayee, politician and pride of our disrict, George Fernandes, world renowned boxer Mohammed Ali have achieved a lot in thier life but sadly suffered Dementia. As there is no definite cure for this disease yet, we must guide and sensitize people in care giving to people affected with Dementia," said Jerardin D'Souza, founder, MAA in his introductory speech.
"My father used to just go to government college, in his casual clothes saying it is their 'College Day' even after 15 years of getting retired as principal of government college," recalled Dr Prabha Adhikari, whose father suffered from Alzheimer's Dementia.
Dr Prabha explained in detail the causes & effects of 'Alzheimer's Dementia' with power point presentation (PPT) and also showed the documentary 'I Dont Miss Him', on Alzheimer's Dementia, as a tribute to her father prof Ramachandra Rao. This documentary is directed by national award-winning director O P Srivastava.
Dr Sandeep Bekal explained various lifestyle modifications, food intakes and other aspects using ayurveda to prevent the onset of Alzheimer's Dementia.
Dr Santosh Kumar J, principal, KAMC, proposed the vote of thanks.
KMC Nava Chaitanya, Spoorthi trust, AGE Mangaluru, All active ageing centres participated actively and provided great entertainment through brilliant dances and skits.
Students of KAMC also performed spectacular and meaningful skit.
It was a meaningful and very informative Programme attended by many senior citizens, general public & Students.
Dr Yogisha of MCF compered the programme brilliantly in his unique style.
