Mangaluru, Mar 10: It was a joyful and colorful day when 800 women gathered at Spandana Trust campus, to celebrate International Women’s day on March 8.
The programme was inaugurated by the president Sr Sylvia Fernandes by the symbolic lighting of a lamp. She, in her address spoke encouraging words that is, women are powerful strength for the society and respected. “Today women bear the responsibility, they are not lacking behind men, in any field,” she said. The women of self help groups were praised and wished them all the best.
Chief guest Veena B K BSW lecturer of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya wished all the women and as a resource person she spoke about the good harmony and the role of woman in the family. The inter-relationship between the family members was highlighted.
Wilma Elizabeth guest and resource person, officer from Labour and Construction department and Mary Dias, senior labour officer explained the government facilities for construction workers and others.
Sr Helen Fernandes, administrator of Spandana Trust and former administrator Sr Evangeline was present on the dais. Suchithra, president of the Federation of Self Help Groups welcomed the gathering and Ida Menezes, secretary rendered the vote of thanks. The programme organized by the Spandana Trust, social workers Theertha, Sr Dorathi and all the staff.
The women put up the entertainment programme in which they enacted the realities of life. At the end of the programme, there was lunch for all.
