Mumbai, Aug 16: 'The focal point of staging drama should be keeping the audience spellbound. Dramas are reflections of daily living and talent exhibited on stage will be real. Therefore, artistes need the support of viewers since they help dramas survive in the new millennium,' said Henry D’ Paula Karkala, editor, ‘Kuttam’ Konkani weekly, here on Saturday, August 16.
He was speaking at the launch of Konkani comedy play, ‘Zanna Soglo Ganv’, by Konkani columnist and dramatist Joseph Joachim, also popularly known as 'Joker Cascia', and directed by journalist and veteran dramatist Sunny A D’Souza, on Friday, August 15.
Fr Victor Noronha, principal, St Judes High School, launched the play by lighting the lamp in a simple ceremony held at their school auditiorium on Friday evening. Speaking on the occasion, Fr Noronha said 'plays should essentially convey philosophy and moral lessons. The playwrights should attempt this instead of just focusing on comedy. Moreover, traditional values incorporated in a play bring time-tested ideas to the forefront.'
The playwright explained the theme of his play while the director handed over copies of the play to dramatists. 'Sangeet Samrat', Henry D’Souza, Victor Concesso, Kaviraj J B Sequeira, Clement Lobo, Konkan Kalakar founder John Sequeira, and Konkan Tharam Jerimeri treasurer John Mascarenhas, were the guests of honour present on the dais.
