Mangaluru, Mar 8: The Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) here on Thursday March 8 wore a festive look as it celebrated womanhood on the occasion of International Women's Day. Under the aegis of Airport Authority of India, the staff welfare committee in association with women's welfare association, Kalyanmayee conducted a day-long programme for staff, officials, CISF officers, women employees and passengers at the airport.
The day's programme started with a free screening camp and consultation for health conditions such as blood pressure and blood sugar) by Dr Zenobia D'Souza and her team from KMC Hospital for passengers, employees of MIA, CISF women employees and others.
Passengers in the airport were warmly greeted with roses.
In the afternoon session, there was an awareness talk on 'Diet and nurtrition of women' by Dr Aruna Mallya, dietician from KMC Hospital.
"We need to have healthy food and avoid junk food. We should consume natural food items and cook vegetables, especially leafy vegetables. Only when women are trained to follow this will the whole family be healthy. Because of their sedentary lifestyle, most of the women prefer to skip breakfast which gives rise to health problems. Have healthy food and remember, do not go for a walk soon after dinner because it hampers digestion. Soon after the dinner sit for at least two hours. Lead a healthy life for a longer life span," Dr Aruna Mallya told the gathering.
The organisers also cut a cake to celebrate the day.
Proprieter of Vanya's Bridal Studio and beauty loung, Vinaya D'Souza gave a talk on 'Grooming oneself, beauty of mind and soul'.
Vinaya D'Souza emphasized the adage 'cleanliness is next to godliness' and gave tips on hair and skin care. Vinaya D'Souza also conducted an exercise that brought back childhood memories.
