Mangaluru: Beary Sahitya Academy announces honorary awards

Mangaluru, Mar 7: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy on Wednesday March 7 announced its honorary awards for the years 2016 and 2017.

Fakeer Mohammad Katpady (literary research), Aboobakkar Mannagundi (folk) and Aboobakkar Baddoor (art) have been chosen for award for the year 2016, and Umar U H (literary research), Azeez Baikampady (art), and B M Hasainar (folk) have been chosen for the year 2017, in recognition of their contribution to the fields of Beary language, literature and culture.

Announcing the Beary Sahitya Academy Awards at a press conference here on Wednesday, Academy president Karambar Mohammed said that the award ceremony will be held on March 13 at Raita Bhavana, Moodigere. The programme will start at 10 am.

Ramanath Rai, district in-charge minister will inaugrate the event. Roshan Baig, minister for urban development and Haj, and U T Khader, minister for food and civil supplies will present the awards. Motamma, MLC and former minister will attend the event as chief guest. Karambar Mohammed will preside over the event.

Cultural programme comprising Beary poetry session and Beary songs will be another highlight of the event, said Karambar.

Chandrahasa Rai B, registrar, Ansar Bellare, Arif and other academy members were present.

 

About the Awardees

Fakeer Mohammed Katapady: Fakeer Mohammed Katapady hails from Barkur of Udupi district. He has published six story collections, two novels, seven other works and five translations. He has taken an active part in organizing revolutionary literature and community. He has also worked as a member of 'Karnataka Sahitya Academy' and 'Central Sahitya Academy'. He was secretary of Mangaluru zone of State Bank of India Officers' organization also.

Umar U H: Umar U H has served for more than 10 years in various capacities such as the chief secretary of Beary literature and cultural association, chief secretary of Bearys welfare association, Mangaluru unit and chief secretary of 'Central Beary Sahitya Parishad'. He has played a stellar role in making the Beary literature conferences that were held in Bantwal, Udupi, and Chikmagalur a grand success.

Mohammed Mannagundi: Mohammed Mannagundi is a renowned runner of Kambala sports in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada. He has taken to Kambala sports when he was barely 18-years-old. He has bagged record number of prizes in all varieties of competitions in Kambala like 'Negilu Hiriya', 'Hagga Hiriya', 'Negilu Kiriya' and 'Hagga Kiriya'.

Aboobaker Baddoor: Aboobaker Baddoor is a resident of Baddoor in the village of Meramajalu. He is a popular and well-known theatre artist, who started acting at the age of 18 and has acted in more than 300 dramas, several telefilms, and four cinemas made in Beary, Tulu, Kannada and Konkani languages. He has won the hearts of scores of people by his magical acting skills. He has also directed and acted in six dramas, the stories of which were written by himself. He has secured first place in the 'Telikeda Pantha' competition held during the 'Abbakka Festival' in 2014 at Mudipu.

B M Husainar: B M Husainar is a native of Bedrakadu in Vittal Padnur village under Bantwal taluk limits. He is conducting 'Duff' cultural programme and teaching 'Rifayi Duff Ratheeb' art in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod for the past 25 years. He has thousands of students and teachers as his followers. He is actively involved in these activities even now.

Abdul Azeez Baikampady: Abdul Azeez Baikampady is writing and directing Tulu dramas since the age of 14. He has worked as the chief secretary in Central Beary Sahitya Parishad for three years. He also holds the distinction as the founder president of Beary Kala Ranga. He is the current president of All India Beary Parishad and member of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy.
