Mangaluru, Mar 7: In an incident which happened at around 8.30 pm on Monday March 5, two motor-bike borne men tried to rape a lady found walking alone at Arkepadavu in Mooduperara near Bajpe. After she raised an alarm, some locals rushed to her help, at which the duo fled.
On Tuesday March 6, both the accused were arrested by Bajpe police and produced in court.
The lady works in a private hospital in the city. After her duty hours, she had arrived in a bus, got down near Mooduperara church and was walking towards her home when the two young men who came in a two-wheeler, blocked her path, shut her mouth tightly and were dragging her away by her hands when she shouted for help. Some people who were in a shop nearby came there to help her, at which the two men fled, leaving behind their motor bike. A complaint about this incident was filed in Bajpe police station.
Bajpe police who undertook investigation, in a swift action, arrested both the accused, Padmanabha Gowda alias Ammi (32) and Santosh Poojary (20), both from Mooduperara. They were produced in court after which they were remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
