Bengaluru: Minister Madhwaraj announces Ekalavya and Kreeda Ratna awards

Udupi, Mar 7: Youth empowerment and sports minister Pramod Madhwaraj announced the names of 13 sportspersons for Ekalavya Award, two for Life Time Achievement Awards, nine athletes for Karnataka Kreeda Ratna Award and 10 sports clubs for Karnataka Kreeda Poshak Award, at a press conference on Monday, March 5 at Mahajan hall, Hotel Kediyur.

The awards would be presented by chief minister Siddaramaiah at Gurunanak Auditorium in Bengaluru on March 7 at 5.00 pm.

The athletes selected for the Ekalavya Award are Harshith S from Bengaluru (Athletics), Rajesh Prakash Uppar from Darwad (Basketball), Poorvisha S Ram from Bengaluru (Badminton), Renuka Dandin from Bagalkot district (cycling), Mayur D Bhanu from Bengaluru (shooting), Karthik A from Bengaluru (volleyball), Malavika Vishwanath from Bengaluru (swimming), Keerthana T K from Bengaluru (rowing), Ayyappa M B from Bengaluru (hockey), Sukesh Hegde from Karkala (Kabaddi), Gururaj from Chittur Kundapura (weight lifting), Sandeep B from Bagalkot (wrestling), and Revathi Nayak M from Davangere (female para swimmer-under disability).

The sportspersons selected for Ekalavya Award will be honored with cash prize of Rs 2 lac each, a scroll and a bronze statue of Ekalavya.

The coaches of athletes of Karnataka who have been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, for their lifetime achievements are V R Beedu (Athletics) from Bengaluru and M R Mohithe (Swimming) from Bengaluru.

Trainers who have been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award will be honored with cash reward of Rs 1.50 lac each, a scroll and shield.

Athletes selected for Karnataka Kreeda Ratna Award are Sayyed Fatheshavali H Bafari (Atya-Patya) Bengaluru, Yashashwini K G (Ball Badminton) Hassan, Shekhar Vali (lifting shotput) – Bagalkot, Yuvraj Jain (Kambala) – Naravi, Munnir Basha (Kho-Kho) – Shivamogga, Sugunsagar H Vadrale ( Mallakamba) – Belgaum, Sabia S (throwball) – Bengaluru, Athmashri H S (wrestling) and Dhanush Babu (roller skating) – Chikkamagaluru.

The sportspersons selected for the Kreeda Ratna Award will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 1 lac each along with a scroll and shield.

Karnataka Kreeda Poshak Award, aimed at identifying sports promoters contributing to sports will be awarded to Brahmavar Spots Club, Brahmavar; Kambala Conservation, Management and Training Academy (R) Miyar Udupi; Alvas Education Foundation Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada, Jain University, Bengaluru; J S W Bellary; Kyathahalli Sports Okkoota (R) Kyathanahalli, Pandavapura Taluk, Mandya; Sports Promotion and Development Co-operation N Chandaragi Belgau; Kantirava Kesari Ratan Mathapati Spots & Education Society, Hunnura, Taluk Jamkhandi, Bagalkot; Krishna Theera Raitha Sangha (R), Jamakhandi, Bagalkot and Adichunchanagiri Education Trust (R), Sri Adichunchanagiri Kshetra, Nagamangala Mandya.

Sports promoters who have been selected for the award will be awarded with cash reward of Rs 5 lac each and certificates.

State NSS Award will be awarded to University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru - Dr Chandrashekhar, programme coordinator; Horticulture Science University, Bagalkot - Dr Vasanth M Ganiger, programme coordinator and University of Agricultural Science, Dharwad – Prof J S Sonnad, programme coordinator.

Best Unit and Women Programme Officer Award will be awarded to Sri Krishna Degree College, Bengaluru - Dr Poornima Jogi; Millagres College, Hampankatta, Mangaluru - Dr Mamatha N R; Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College, Ujire. – Shakunthala; College of Home Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad - Dr Manjula Patel; Government ITI (Women), Kolar – K G Umadevi; Nataraj Women's Pre University College, Mysore - Sunita Rani and Shri Poornaprajna Evening College, Udupi – Mallika.

Best Unit and Male Programme Officer Award will be awarded to JSS Medical College, Mysore - Dr Sunil Kumar D; College of Sericulture, Chintamani - Dr C Narayanaswamy; H D Deve Gowda Government First Grade College, Paduvalahippe - Prarthesh K V; Cauvery Degree College, Gonikoppal - M N Vanishkumar; Agriculture College, Kalburgi - Mahesh Patel and Government ITI, Mysore - G Ravishankar.

Best Volunteer Award will be awarded to Rushmi K, Rural Home Science College, Dharwad; Vidya C, Sri Krishna Degree College, Bengaluru; Rrishna Shetty, St Agnes College Mangaluru; Pranjali D P Gowda, Horticultural College, Sirsi North Kannada; Saraswati N, Maharaja College, Mysuru and Koduri Nityashree, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum.

Best Volunteer Award will be awarded to Palyaiah, department of Commerce and Business Studies, Kuvempu University, Shivamogga; Naveen Kumar K S, Seshadripuram First Grade College, Yelahanka Bengaluru; Basavaraj H Gokavi, Sri Shankara Kala and Commercial College Navalagunda, Dharwad; Satish, College of Forestry, Sirsi; Amit S Salian, Dr NSAM First Class College, Nitte and Vishwas Gowda DS, Kittur Rani Chennamma Horticultural College, Arabavi.
