Bengaluru, Mar 6: In a welcome news for the Congress, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has been rated as the best MLA in the state, followed by Gopal Poojary of Byndoor, according to voter perception survey conducted by civil society research organisation DAKSH.
The organisation collected feedback from 13,200 respondents - about 50 each in the 224 constituencies of Karnataka.
The survey shows that the top 5 MLAs are from Congress, but chief minister Siddaramaiah who represents Varuna constituency in Mysuru has been rated at 117 with a score of 7 out of 10.
Pramod Madhwaraj topped with a score of 9.1 out of 10, followed by another MLA from Udupi, K Gopal Poojary who represents Byndoor. Woman and child development minister Umashree who represents Terdal is ranked third (8.9), Vinay Kulkarni who represents Dharwad stands fourth and C S Shivalli, MLA of Kundagol stands fifth.
The survey shows that independent MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty representing Kundapur, who joined BJP recently stands sixth.
Reacting to the news, Madhwaraj told daijiworld, "I got to know this through a journalist of a daily when he called to ask my opinion. I am happy to hear about this. It encourages me to work even more aggressively. The result of the survey shows that people have recognised my performance. I would like to thank all the departments who have supported me throughout my tenure and helped me complete the assigned projects on time."
Meanwhile, none of the legislators representing Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru urban district figures in the list of top 35 performers. The 28 Bengaluru MLAs have been rated as average performers. The topper in Bengaluru urban constituencies is S T Somashekar (7.9), who represents Yeshwantpur. He is ranked 37th is the list of 224 MLAs.
While Bengaluru development minister K J George is at 42nd position, home minister B Ramalinga Reddy who represents BTM constituency is one of the poor performers with a score of 5.7 and a ranking of 210.
Among BJP MLAs, opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar representing Hubballi-Dharwad (Central) tops, standing 10th on the list followed by Govind Karjol at 13 and Vishwanath Mamani at 14th place.
Among JD(S) MLAs, Narayana Gowda, who represents Krishnarajpet in Mandya district has been ranked 17th followed by S R Sreenivas, MLA from Gubbi in Tumakuru is ranked at the 18th position. JD(S) State Chief HD Kumaraswamy who represents Ramanagara has received the 94th rank.
Worst Performers
Independent MLA SN Subbareddy from Chikkaballapur has been ranked the lowest with a score of 3.9. Congress MLA from Chikkaballapur Dr K Sudhakar is ranked at the 223rd position.
Jagalur MLA H P Rajesh from Congress, Turuvekere MLA M T Krishnappa from JD(S), Chikkanayakanahalli MLA C B Suresh Babu from JD(S) are other poor performers ranked at 222, 221 and 220th position respectively.
"The primary aim of the assessment was to evaluate the effectiveness of elected representatives in terms of meeting the expectations of people. The larger purpose of the survey was also to highlight voter priorities so that they are reflected in the election agenda and manifestos of political parties in the upcoming polls," a DAKSH spokesperson told the media.
