Udupi, Aug 13: The district Bar association began an indefinite protest in front of the Court premises here on Wednesday August 13, against the assault on their picnicking colleagues at Srimane Falls, in Sringeri last Saturday August 9, by personnel of the Anti-naxal Force (ANF).
The lawyers urged ANF superintendent of police, Ramadas Gowda, and deputy superintendent of police, Harischandra to apologize for their alleged statements related to the incident. They also demanded that the ANF police identify the 20 city lawyers against whom cases were registered though only 12 lawyers had been to the picnic.
The agitating lawyers urged the state government to take strict action against the ANF police involved in the incident. The students of Vaikunta Baliga Law College have also extended their support to the agitating lawyers.
M A Gafoor, president, district Congress and Raghupaty Bhat, MLA, visited the agitating lawyers and expressed their concern. Office-bearers of the district bar association also presented a memorandum to deputy commissioner (DC) Hemalata Ponnuraj, and Dilip, in-charge superintendent of police, seeking justice at the earliest.
