Mangaluru: Electoral list released - 16,44,301 voters in Dakshina Kannada district

Mangaluru, Mar 4: The final electoral list of Dakshina Kannada district covering eight Assembly constituencies was released at the DC's office here on Sunday March 4.

Addressing the media, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Kumar said, "The voters list was finalised on February 28. As per the directions of the Election Commission, one copy should be submitted to each of the registered recognised political party.

"Those who completed 18 years on or before January 1, 2018 are elgible for electoral photo ID card (EPIC)," he added.

"As per the proposed electorate draft compiled from November 30, 2017 to January 1, 2018, there are 16,44,301 voters in the district. During this period, voters' list was retified with corrections, error deletion and addition of new voters.

"We have received a total of 50,956 applications out of which 48,145 are new inclusions to the voters' list. Those who have been left out still can apply for voter's card till a week prior to the election. However, once the election dates are declared, there will be no scope for any correction or deletion," he said.

Polling booths: There are 1,766 polling booths and additional 24 polling booths will be set up, making a total of 1,790 polling booths. Places have been identified for additional 24 booths. Repair works fulfilling basic requirements, arrangements etc will be made, ADC Kumar said.

"We have recieved the electronic voter machines (EVMs), and the first level checking is in progress. Sixteen engineers have arrived from Delhi, and verification will take another 10 days.

"We have an exclusive control room for elections and another control room will be set up in DC's office," he said, adding that one may contact 1800-425-2099 (toll free) or 0824-2420002, or log in to www.deodk.com for further details.

"This time the Election Commission has directed special focus on physically handicapped voters, providing them all the facilities such as ramp, information section and other amenities to facilitate them to cast their votes. The district has a total of 9,589 physically challenged voters, and 262 are yet to be included in the voters' list," he added.

ADC Kumar handed over copies of voters' list to representatives of registered political parties.

    Authorities, please take note : new voter IDs are not released by the concerned department in the Corporation. Despite several visits to the office, ID holders are sent away giving some silly excuses.

    Please speed up delivering the ID cards or announce the public to come collect them.

    Tripura and Nagaland are some of the forward-thinking states with HDI above national average. The voters there were 'young and educated'.
    They were not fooled. They chose BJP irrespective of which religion they belonged to. In fact, it's the oldies who stick to the past and refuse to move forward.
