Mangaluru: City buses not issuing tickets to passengers may lose their permits

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 3: T R Suresh, police commissioner of the city has considered the issue of non- issuance of tickets to passengers travelling in city buses very seriously and warned that the permits of such buses would be cancelled.

He informed this during the police phone- in programme held at his office on Friday, March 2, in response to the call made by a person from Padil who complained that except the route 9 NERM bus, no other private city buses are issuing tickets to passengers in that area.

"We have received numerous complaints in the phone- in programmes over non- issuance of tickets to passengers. Several reminders have been given to bus owners but there is no change in their attitude. Even after giving two- day training to the staff of city buses, the issue still continues. That is why, in future, we will conduct special operation and nab the buses which do not issue tickets to passengers and cancel their permits," said T R Suresh.

He also assured investigation on the complaint that the drivers of city buses have been stopping to pick up passengers anywhere on the road as they wish.

Obstruction to traffic at Moodbidri

Complaints were received by people highlighting the issue of parking of vehicles on both sides of the road at Moodbidri, which is causing problems for the free flow of traffic. Responding to this, the commissioner said that there is no traffic police in Moodbidri, the police of local station will be deployed for controlling traffic.

Police deployment at Atrebail

Some people complained that the city buses are still not going to Atrebail in the city. The police commissioner, who replied to this query, said that police personnel have been deployed to take care of this issue. The complainant told the commissioner that though the police are deployed, the buses cut their trip and do not come to Atrebail during the lunch hour when the traffic police are not available. Police commissioner assured that henceforth two police personnel will be deployed instead of one.

Mobile phone connection not available near prison

One of the complainants said that mobile connection was not available in the vicinity of prison at Kodialbail as 'jammer' was fixed in that area. The commissioner said that a permanent solution will be obtained for this when the prison gets shifted to the outskirts of Mangaluru.

Other issues highlighted during the phone-in

- Ground dug up for pipeline installation in Kulari not closed from two weeks
- CCTV camera near Kalpana Sweets at the Central market is not functioning since few months
- Jokatte-Mangaladevi bus trips being cut by the personnel
- Route number 18 city bus not following timings
- Village accountant not available at Jokatte
- Some bike riders are riding their bikes without silencers at Bejai Anegundi road
- Auto rickshaw parking issue at Beeri, Kotekar
- Some vehicles still have tinted glasses
- Prostitution being carried out in a house on Pachanady-Padavinanagady road

No use by police. Until they support bus mafia, nothing will be improved. This is only a Nataka & brainwashing the people to show they are working. Mr. Suresh, if you are honest, just show one improvement from so many complaints so far. Just talks don't work.

Is non issuance of paper ticket a big issue? I personally feel NO. as long as they do not overcharge. All daily commuters are well aware of the charges. As for evading of taxes is considered- government can always come up with some fixed tax based on some formula/ past data.
Picking up people from anywhere: As long as it dosent hinder traffic its ok( unwritten code) and may be in city limits it could implement some rules esp Not allowing to stop and wait for passengers. But outside city limits it could be relaxed as it is for convenience of passengers that they stop. Also if passengers make a habit of reaching the stop on time, above issue wudnt be discussed.
Someone referred Mumbai Best busses. These drivers are not accountable and sometimes they dont stop ev en if the whole bus is empty.

    It definitely is an issue!

When conductors do not issue tickets the Owners do not get their returns on investment due to which they are forced to approach the authorities to allow them to increase the bus fare and hence indirectly is an liability on the passengers

This phone in programme is useless. More than 70 programmes and the results is Zero. Same callers call every time and same type complaint. Better on temporary basis shift the service stand to Mahaveera circle. 50 % traffic problems will slove. Then policetop officers personally travel in civil dress in the bus to catch hold the conductor who are not issueing tickets and those drivers who drive rashly and use baned horns. If they do this than it is more than enough.instead of this bore phone in programme.

City buses ply only for profit for the private bus owners, and not as a service for the public like government buses...The authorities are hand in glove to issue even more permits to city buses however reckless and their lack of civic sense the drivers may be..

Best solution is put an end to put city buses by slowly weaning them ; they have become more than a nuisance, caring a damn to the authorities.

Mr Rudolf, putting an end to city buses will only save your problem. What about the majority of us? Who is going to take us to places?? Surely we can't afford the luxury of taking autos or Ola/Uber cabs everyday.

For me non-issuance of ticket is no big issue unless buses do it to evade taxes. But a bigger joke is - Police Commissioner assured investigation on the complaint that the drivers of city buses have been stopping to pick up passengers anywhere on the road as they wish.

Does it mean that he does not know? Just send plain clothes officers and you will practically end up finding all private buses doing that.

Don't fool in these matters saying we will investigate. We have hundreds of proofs that require no investigation.

Anil, I was forced to travel by bus because I had a tough time maneuvering my MH 04 vehicle. Private buses tried their best to push me out of the road nevertheless I loved driving from Baikampadi to Udupi.
I was on a holiday for 2 weeks & i did not want to spoil my holidays running after ...

We general public should know our rights & duties. I usually travel by city bus from Kulai to Mangàluru.sometimes from Kulai to Surathkal. Most of the conductors are friendly. Even if ladies seat vacant, ladies sit in general seat. Sr.citizens seat are occupied by youngsters. They engrossed in mobile. Conductors are hesitant to ask them to vacate the respective seats for Sr.citizens.
    2. Steps of most of the city bus are difficult to climb. This needs to be improved.
    3. It is desirable thatnew routes to be implemented like Surathkal to Kankanady Railway Station via Kottara chouky- A.J.Hospital- KPT- Mahabharatha circle & to Padil to Mangàluru railway Junction.
