Mangaluru, Mar 3: T R Suresh, police commissioner of the city has considered the issue of non- issuance of tickets to passengers travelling in city buses very seriously and warned that the permits of such buses would be cancelled.
He informed this during the police phone- in programme held at his office on Friday, March 2, in response to the call made by a person from Padil who complained that except the route 9 NERM bus, no other private city buses are issuing tickets to passengers in that area.
"We have received numerous complaints in the phone- in programmes over non- issuance of tickets to passengers. Several reminders have been given to bus owners but there is no change in their attitude. Even after giving two- day training to the staff of city buses, the issue still continues. That is why, in future, we will conduct special operation and nab the buses which do not issue tickets to passengers and cancel their permits," said T R Suresh.
He also assured investigation on the complaint that the drivers of city buses have been stopping to pick up passengers anywhere on the road as they wish.
Obstruction to traffic at Moodbidri
Complaints were received by people highlighting the issue of parking of vehicles on both sides of the road at Moodbidri, which is causing problems for the free flow of traffic. Responding to this, the commissioner said that there is no traffic police in Moodbidri, the police of local station will be deployed for controlling traffic.
Police deployment at Atrebail
Some people complained that the city buses are still not going to Atrebail in the city. The police commissioner, who replied to this query, said that police personnel have been deployed to take care of this issue. The complainant told the commissioner that though the police are deployed, the buses cut their trip and do not come to Atrebail during the lunch hour when the traffic police are not available. Police commissioner assured that henceforth two police personnel will be deployed instead of one.
Mobile phone connection not available near prison
One of the complainants said that mobile connection was not available in the vicinity of prison at Kodialbail as 'jammer' was fixed in that area. The commissioner said that a permanent solution will be obtained for this when the prison gets shifted to the outskirts of Mangaluru.
