Mangaluru, Mar 1: In all likelihood, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, might officially visit the city by the end of March. He is likely to take part in the inauguration of cavernous strategic petroleum reserve facility created here and dedicate third phase of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd to the world.
Initially, the above programmes were planned to be held during December last or January this year. It was found to be ideal time as the Paryaya period of Sri Vishveshateertha Swamiji was coming to an end. However, because of various other issues, this visit did not materialise.
As assembly election in the state is approaching fast, this time is felt to be ripe to inaugurate central government projects. Alongside inaugural of these projects, BJP also plans to organize a mega meet on this occasion in the city. Within a couple of days, date of his visit is likely to be finalized, sources conceded. However, if assembly election is announced before his arrival, the programme may be postponed.
Modi had touched the city and stayed at circuit house here on December 18 last year. He had visited Lakshadweep by special flight on that occasion.
