Beltangady, Mar 1: Agitated at the stand taken by the block education officer here not to sign their previous performance reports, teachers on Wednesday February 28 evening resorted to flash protest demonstration in front of his office here.

The Karnataka department of public instruction has sought certain records along with their performance reports pertaining to previous five years in respect of about 300 high school teachers from all over the state, who are eligible for promotion as head teachers. Four teachers from this taluk are eligible for this promotion. Two among them, Poornima, assistant teacher of Padangady high school and Hammanna Naik of Puthila high school had prepared performance reports from 2013 to 2016 and brought them to the office of the block education officer for his signature. Reportedly, the officer remained adamant at not signing the reports and insisting that the report needed to be signed by block education officers who functioned here during the period to which these reports relate.

The teachers waited till late afternoon in the hope that the officer would change his mind, but their wait proved futile. Since afternoon, the officer was not available in his office. Protesting against this attitude, government employees belonging to primary, high school and other offices in the taluk squatted in front of the block education officer to register their anger.

State government employees association taluk president, Jayakeerti Jain, leaders of teachers and non-teaching staff organizations, Dharanendra Kumar, Rajaguru Hebbar, Siddesh, Ramesh Maiya, Niranjan Jain, Muhammed /Riaz, Adam, Panja Naik and Nagaraj D led the protesters.
