Udupi, Aug 12: A people's interactive meet was held on the premises of Nalkoor gram panchayat on Tuesday August 12, for the first time ever. The meet was organized through the initiative taken by local MLA Raghupati Bhat.
Hemalata Ponnuraj, deputy commissioner (DC), after inaugurating the meet said that a district-level cell will be set up to redress the grievances of citizens swiftly. Complaints will be redressed at the interactive meet thereby saving them frequent visits to government offices.
Bhat, speaking on the occasion, said that the people's meet was held in gram panchayats across the erstwhile Udupi constituency district and will also be organized in newly-included Brahmavar area which comprises of 22 villages and 14 gram panchayats.
The meet will discuss a variety of important projects under its jurisdiction and aim at resolving complaints on the spot in the presence of people's representatives and department officials. Final touches will also be given to various government projects which are under active consideration.
There is also a proposal to set up one overhead tank with maximum capacity to supply water for every five villages, to address the drinking water problem. Various district and taluk department officers as well as a large number of locals attended the meet.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer Prasanna Kumar, zilla panchayat member P K Hegde, taluk panchayat president Geeta Prabhu, taluk panchayat chief executive officer Ramanand Nayak, Nalkoor gram panchayat president Shankar A Shetty, and various department officers were present.
