Mangaluru, Feb 28: Ashton Sequeira, a resident of Kulshekar in the city, who was arrested by Kundapur police on Saturday, February 24 in connection with the Jain Tirthankar idol stealing and selling attempt, has been expelled from the post of secretary of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Dakshina Kannada district.
This action was taken as per the instructions given by state president of NSUI.
NSUI is the student wing of the Indian National Congress.
Ashton and two others were arrested by Kundapur police from the vicinity of Lord Kotilingeshwara temple at Koteshwara, Kundapur when they were trying to sell four ancient idols of Jain Tirthankars.
The photos of Ashton Sequeira with prominent leaders of Congress party including chief minister Siddaramaiah, went viral on social networking sites on Sunday, February 25. Immediately Dakshina Kannada district unit of NSUI had a discussion with state unit NSUI office bearers with regards to removing Ashton from the post of secretary of the district unit.
