Bengaluru, Feb 27: The state government, which had earlier introduced 'Indira Canteens' to provide food to the poor at affordable prices, is geared up to launch its new scheme, 'Saviruchi Canteen' on Tuesday February 27. Chief minister, Siddaramaiah, will be dedicating the canteens to the public at a function being held at the eastern main gate of Vidhan Soudha.
This information was provided by Bhrathi Shankar, chairperson of Karnataka State Women's Development Corporation, addressing a press conference here on Monday February 26. She said that ministers, R Roshan Baig, K J George, Umashree, Ramalinga Reddy and H M Revanna, apart from leader of the opposition in the assembly, Jagadish Shettar, city mayor, Sampathraj and others will participate as chief guests of the inaugural function.
At the programme, the chief minister will be handing over mobile vehicles to Sthree Shakti groups from all the districts. Moreover, mechanically operated two-wheeler vehicles would be given to physically challenged persons, she added.
The government plans to implement this scheme in association with district level Sthree Shakti groups. Bharathi said that the main aim of the government is to empower Sthree Shakti groups and that for this purpose, the government has already lent ten lac rupees each by way of interest-free loan, she explained.
