Mangaluru, Feb 26: Catechism day was observed on February 25 at Rosario Cathedral with zest and devotion.
It initiated with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Vijay Machado, director of Mangala Jyothi and Fr J B Crasta, rector of Rosario Cathedral. A meaningful homily was preached by Fr Vijay Machado accentuating the values said, “We need to grow in our faith. We need to have information, and transform ourselves so to be like Jesus to transfigure and become an adored child of God.”
Cultural extravaganza followed the Eucharistic celebration. Fr J B Crasta, rector of the Cathedral was the president of the function and Fr Vijay Machado was the chief guest and other dignitaries were C J Simon, vice-president, Elizabeth Roche, secretary of the Parish Council, Fr Anil Fernandes, assistant parish priest, Fr. Vincent D’Souza, animator of YCS and Sr Lidwyn Pinto coordinator of Catechism.
The programme commenced with an invocation by Class 9 students. Gospel value based action songs were effectively enacted by Classes 1, 2 and 3 students highlighting the values of love, life to be imbibed by all the faithful.
Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Scintillating dances of Classes 4, 5 and 6 competently brought out the mission of Jesus and prayed for the all the missionaries. Respect for the elders was proficiently brought out by altar boys and YCS. Keeping in mind the theme of Mangaluru Diocese – Year of Rosary, students of Classes of 7 and 8 put up a motivating skit on the importance of Rosary in familial life.
Prizes were then disseminated to the deserving students in catechism exam, quiz, full attendance and games. Experiences were shared meaningfully by Flossy D’Souza and Callistus student of Std X.
In his revitalizing message, the chief guest Fr. Vijay Machado encouraged the parents to guide the wards in faith formation. Fr J B Crasta, president of the function in his message thanked all the parents and teachers for the trouble taken during the year to build communities of faith. The programme was compered by Ruann of Class IX and Rollen of Class X. Fr Anil issued the message of thanks and Sr Lidwyn Pinto welcomed the gathering.
