Puttur, Aug 11: The Heavy downpour in this region since Saturday night, August 9 in areas coming under the Puttur sub-division limits, has hit normal lives of the citizens. Power failure forced people to spend the whole day in darkness on Sunday, August 10, as uprooted trees fell on the electricity lines at various places.
Puttur, Sullia, Beltangady, Uppinangady, Nellyadi, Kadaba and Shiradi recieved heavy rain with speeding gale on Sunday. Still, no loss of lives or damage to properties has been reported so far. Nethravati and Kumaradara rivers are flowing perilously close to the danger level, less than two metres below it at Uppinangady as on Sunday. Heavy rains in the ghat section also contributed to the rise in the inflow into river.
Kumaradhara river has been flowing at dangerous level in Kukke Subramanya. Pilgrims were stranded here as Kumaradara bridge, the only road link to the pilgrimage centre, sank thrice on Sunday. The incessant rain brought back memories of the famed 'Aati' rains of the past.
