Puttur, Feb 24: A student of Vivekananda College here landed in trouble after he allegedly put up 'Bundle Shah' as his status on Instagram in a jibe at BJP president Amit Shah on the day of his recent visit to Puttur.
Though it is being widely claimed on social networking sites that the student has been suspended from the college for 15 days, sources said that he has been 'asked to go on leave' and not officially suspended.
The student had received flak from various quarters for putting up the status.
Sources in the college clarified that the student was asked to remove the 'Bundle Shah' status on his Instagram. However, the student did not agree to this and allegedly retorted that he should have written more on Amit Shah. In order to avoid the incident getting blown up, the student was asked to take leave. "We have neither suspended him nor sent any notification," college sources said.
"In the past, a written undertaking was taken by the college authorities from this very student over an issue. In order to avoid any recurrence of the earlier scenario, it was inevitable to take disciplinary action. In addition, this was an insult to the organization. That is why he is asked to proceed on leave," they said.
K G Krishnamurhy, principal of Vivekananda Law College said, "Right now I cannot say anything about this incident. I do not have any information with regard to the rumours that are viral on social networking sites. Only after going through the said post I can comment on the issue."
