Kasargod, Feb 20: The team investigating the murder of Mattannuru, Kannur resident youth Congress activist Shuhaib arrested two accused on February 18.
The arrested are Thillangeri resident Akash (23) and Rijin Raj (24). Both of them are reportedly CPM activists. They are also accused in the murder of Thillangeri resident RSS activist Vishnu that took place one year ago. Police said that Rijin Raj was also involved in the murder of a person called Vineesh. “They were arrested after questioning on Monday. Five suspects were directly involved in the crime. A search is on for them,” said the police.
North zone IGP Rajesh Diwan has also clarified that the arrested were directly involved in the murder.
Details are being gathered with regard to the conspiracy hatched by the accused. IG Rajesh said dismissing rumors of the accused surrendering to the police said, “They did not surrender, but were arrested by the police. More than 50 houses were raided to nab them. The two accused were arrested when they tried to flee. There are no omissions in the investigations. There is no political pressure. Police will cooperate in CBI investigations also if necessary.” IG Rajesh Diwan gave clarifications in the press conference called by him in Kannur on Monday, February 19 as serious allegations were made regarding the arrest of the accused.
A group had killed Shuhaib throwing a bomb at him and subsequently stabbing him in the night on February 12.
