Panaji, Aug 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will move a resolution in the ensuing Goa legislative assembly session seeking special status to the State.
"There is large scale migration in the State because of which the infrastructure has collapsed. We have limited resources within which we need to manage," leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar told reporters here.
The BJP has worked-out a full-proof strategy for the ensuing State legislative assembly session beginning from August 18, which will have an important resolution seeking special status to the state.
"We want the special status par with Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal wherein we can control the financial and land dealing while stopping the demographic changes happening in the State," Parrikar, former State chief minister said.
The party has taken strong objection to the mega housing projects and slums mushrooming across the state due to increased migration in this 14-lac populated State.
"The land dealings should be controlled or else we will not leave any land for our posterity," Parrikar commented.
The opposition party has clarified that their demand for the special status is not par with Jammu and Kashmir. "The status will be sought under article 371 of the Constitution," he said briefing press persons at BJP State headquarters here.
The opposition benches expect that the ruling legislators will also back them up in the demand as it is required to secure better future for the State.
