Mangaluru, Feb 19: The credit of preparing the three-tiered umbrella (Chathratraya) that is dazzling atop the statue of Lord Gomateshwara Bahubali at the Mahamastakabhisheka that is being held at Shravanabelagola goes to the renowned establishment of Govardhan Metal House of Car Street, Mangaluru.
The 'Chathratraya' is constructed under the technical guidance and direction of Shiva Prasad, owner of Govardhan Metal House. The fame of preparing the same umbrella for the previous Mahamastakabhisheka also goes to the team led by Shiva Prasad.
This 'Chathratraya' is made of fine carving craft on copper sheets and is coated with gold on top. Three umbrellas are aligned one over the other. The bottom one is 18 feet wide, the middle one is 12 feet wide and the topmost umbrella is nine feet in width. A golden 'Kalasha' adorns the top of the topmost umbrella. The total weight of this 'Chathratraya' is 1250 kg. A team of 28 craftsmen have worked for more than four months to get this glittering umbrella ready for the occasion.
Shiva Prasad, the owner of Govardhan Metal House, said, "We are in this business since the past 46 years and are known for constructing the copper rooftop, lamp and other pooja articles for several temples in and around Mangaluru. It is our good fortune that we got the job of constructing the 'Chathratraya' for Lord Bahubali."
