Chikkaballapur, Feb 19: It is being claimed that a youth lost his life due to the caning by police after pandemonium broke out as three factions came together during the visit of election observers deputed by Congress party here on Sunday February 18.
Vinay (25), resident of Kandavara Bagilu, lost his life in the incident.
The youth, who had suffered injuries due to caning, had been admitted into a private hospital here. It is said that the youth, out of extreme fear at the caning incident, died of heart attack at 8.20 pm. Thereafter, one of the factions of the party and various organizations held protest in front of the private hospital, and expressed strong resentment at the attitude of the police. The crowd also tried to lay siege to the office of the district superintendent of police.
Congress party in this constituency is divided into three factions. All the three leaders are bitter enemies. Observes, I G Sanadi and C M Lingappa, appointed by the leadership, arrived at Sideeshwara community hall at 4.50 pm on Sunday February 18. Supporters of K V Naveen Kirqn stopped thei4 car near the hall and demanded ticket for their leader.
On the other hand, supporters of G Narayanaswamy, holding flexes, tried to barge into the venue. At the same time, workers owing allegiance to sitting MLA, Dr K Sudhakar, had occupied the hall to assert their supremacy.
To control the melee, the police resorted to lathi charge. Vinay, said to he a supprter of Naveen Kiran, who was injured, died at around 8.20 pm. It is being claimed that he suffered heart attack out of fear.
Naveen Kiran, who visited the hospital, accused the police of unnecessarily wielding their batons and causing death of innocent youngsters. He sought answers from the police. This faction is said to be thinking of means to hold protest against this incident including organizing bandh.
District superintendent of police, Kartik Reddy, said that a list of 65 persons who mainly caused the situation to worsen, has been prepared. "We have verified CCTV footage. The deceased youth was nowhere in the picture. He would have died of some other reason. The allegation that he died of lathi charge will be investigated and a clear picture of the developments would lbe provided," he added.
