Udupi, Feb 19: A free mega health checkup camp was organized by Bannanje Consumers Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Limited Bannanje, Smile Association (R) Udupi, Lions Club Udupi-Bannanje and Old Students Association (R)in association with Adarsh Hospital at Adi Udupi Primary School premises.
Dr G S Chandrashekar, managing director of Adarsh Hospital here, inaugurated the event. Addressing the gathering he said, “Adarsh Hospital is organizing health camps in many rural areas to bring about awareness on health. Lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure and epidemic diseases are increasing in India. A good lifestyle reduces chances of lifestyle diseases. Epidemic diseases which were in the 1960’s have been in existence till date. By keeping our surroundings clean and hygienic we can reduce the risk of epidemic diseases.
“Medical facilities available in USA are also available in India. Compared to western countries, health cost in India is very low. People in India do not take care of their health issues. Health should not be neglected. Medical Insurance facility makes it easy to avail good medication from good hospitals."
Vishu Shetty, president of Old Students Association (R), Adi Udupi Primary School and social worker speaking on the occasion said, “Today, due to internet, people have become doctors. They look up medication for diseases on the internet and then consult the doctor. These health check up camps help to build a friendly relationship with the doctor.”
A team of expert doctors from Adarsh Hospital conducted health checkups for patients. Around 400-500 patients were treated at the event. Blood pressure, diabetes, ECG, tests were conducted free of cost. Heart scan and TMT tests on needy patients for the next stage will be conducted at Adarsh Hospital free of cost. Medicines for the needy were distributed free as part of the programme. Ear nose throat specialists, heart specialists, dental surgeons, bone specialists, children specialists, senior surgeons from the prestigious Adarsh Hospital took part in the checkup camp.
Besides banking service, Bannanje Consumers Multipurpose Co-Operative Society Limited has also engaged in many social activities. In 2016, the bank had organized a blood donation camp as well.
