Mangaluru, Feb 18: Sanku Poonja - Devu Poonja Jodukare Kambala, which has historic significance, and which is associated with Lord Amrutheshwara temple at Vamanjoor, was held at the Kambala field opposite Amrutheshwara temple, Vamanjoor, on Saturday February 17. This Kambala also is popularly known with the name, 'Tiruvailotsava'.
The Kambala was inaugurated by Bolmaraguthu Brahmashree Srinivas Bhat at 9.30 am. Bhat extended his best wishes for its success. President of Buntara Yane Nadavara Matr Sangha, Ajit Kumar Rai Maladi, presided over the inaugural function.
As many as 107 pairs of buffaloes took part in the Kambala from various places in undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The tradition of buffaloes taking to the field was performed at 10.30 am. Competitions were held in various departments like Kanehalage, Hagga senior and junior departments, Negilu senior and junior categories, and Addahalage department.
Founder of this Jodukare Kambala, Tiruvailguthu Naveenchandra Alva, Kambala Samiti working president, Mithun Rai, general secretary, Praveenchandra Alva, and Rajkumar Shetty Tiruvailguthu, received the guests and dignitaries who came to witness the Kambala. Sharath Shetty Padupalli and Ashwini Shetty Bondantila compered the programme.
Thumbe Jayaram Samani, Seetaram Janu Shetty representing Janu Shetty Memorial Education and Charitable Trust, chief priest of Sadashiva temple, Sadashiva Bhat, Padavu Meginamane Umesh Rai, Tiruvail Pratosh Malli, and Omprakash Shetty were present.
