I have left Mangalore years ago But back then I thought Gunda Raj ended. Pettist. I remember Yekkur Baba was the last of the Gundas And all the major right and left-hand men of various Pettists in Mangalore got into Collection and recovery of Loans and finance.
I assumed that this rowdism would end, but I keep hearing news of someone getting hacked up after almost a decade its like it was on the decline but it is now rising again.
I think Mangloreans have to rise and save their city.
I remember back in the days it was hard to go outside after 10pm and not get into a fight and it was very easy to get murdered for trivial reasons like "dane me mesapini" (who are you staring at).
I hope those days don't come back again.

    Hari,

I feel your pain. The top five countries with lowest crime rates in the world are Switzerland, Singapore, Iceland, Japan and Luxembourg. Japan and Singapore are considered to be the safest countries in Asia. According to one of the statistics, India ranked second in the world with 40,752 murders in 2009 being the second in the world, if any, I bet the latest statistics probably is a lot higher, a record no one should be proud of. Japan 506 and Singapore a mere 16 murders in 2015 and 2016. The statistics for Saudi Arabia and gulf countries are dismal! I have not ventured into looking for data for crime rates in India, we probably out rank a lot of other nations even taking into consideration the enormity of our population (per capita).

While prosperity in the Western world has paid ethical price leading to crimes, nagging poverty, lack of integration, poor literacy, fractured society, poverty and unemployment among the youth may be some factors why we have such horrendous rate of crimes, murders and unrest. I hope the social scientists and the think tank in our communities and the country as a whole pays attention towards rapidly disintegrating morality, law and order in our communities and society, failing which I am afraid the law-abiding citizens may have to bear arms just as law abiding citizens do in the West to protect themselves and their families. Do we have a choice when the police and the government are incompetent? True it is not a wise solution, it would be anarchy in proxy. It is an alarming and sad situation indeed.

You are true and it’s very painful. Our social fabric has gone to nuts every one is doubting each other. All is because of politics otherwise India is very peaceful and tolerant in nature. I found two similarities in Indian and African politics. When the time of elections politicians offer cow and a music set to villages and heads of villagers and India politicians talk more about cow and bhajans.

Any Solution is worthy of serious consideration - even if it entails chopping off their Right or Left hand
like the practice in Several Arab countries. This must include death penalty if victim is killed.
These senseless pleasure crimes has NO PLACE IN MODERN INDIA!
Many youngsters are drawn into criminal life i e street life because it does not demand/expect responsibility! It free-loafing!
Responsible state and local governments must pass laws to stop this menace. The shear misery these
GOONDAS inflict upon innocent boys and girls should be heavily punished with mandatory jail time
    that should include rigorous LABOR!
Any other INNOVATIVE PUNISHMENT must be welcome short of HANGING!
