Mangaluru, Feb 17: Panambur police have arrested three persons of a team that was looting cash and gold by brandishing lethal weapons, from the passengers and drivers of vehicles at Kudremukh Junction near Thannirbavi crossroad on the early morning of Friday, February 16.
The arrested are Pradeep Kumar alias Pradeep Mendon (47), a resident of Ambalpady, Udupi, Sunil (20), a resident of Kudroli Bengre and Charan Shet, a resident of Bolar.
Two people of this team, who escaped during the operation, are identified as Bharath and Naveen. Police have confiscated swords, chilli powder and rope from the arrested.
Plot for revenge killing
Recently Shivaraj, elder brother of Bharatesh, was murdered by Aneesh and his accomplices in Thannirbavi. It has come to light that a plan was hatched to kill people in the team of Aneesh, who killed Shivaraj, and escape to other states. In order to gather the money required for this act, the gangsters were looting the vehicles. This fact was unearthed by the police during the interrogation.
Pradeep is accused in 14 different cases in and around Mangaluru city. Charan Shet is involved in four cases, as per the police records.
Umesh Kumar, police sub-inspector, conducted the operation at around 4.10 am based on a definite information that was received at 3.30 am. The police found five people with two-wheelers at the said spot with the intention of creating a nuisance. All the culprits tried to escape as soon as they saw the police, but the police team managed to catch three of them.
