Mangaluru, Feb 13: The congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangaluru province celebrated the day of the Bethany Lay Assosciates (BLA) on February 13 at Sacred Hearts’ High School auditorium. The joy was immense as 220 participants of 21 units of the province joined together. Sr M Cicilia Mendonca, the provincial superior presided over the function.
Speaking on the purpose of BLA she said, “The birth of Bethany Lay Association is a new shoot to the tree of Bethany. Over a decade, the associates have assimilated the spirituality of Bethany with their Christian commitment, dedication and apostolic zeal living in our world as leaven, salt and light, to come forward to join hands with us in our missionary endeavors.”
While appreciating their commitment of being part of Bethany and their serviceability among the needy and neglected was praise worthy.
Sr Shubha, the provincial councilor and coordinator for pastoral apostolate and the organizer of the programme, welcomed the members.
Sr Lolita Pereia, the superior of Nazareth Convent and headmistress of Holy Family High School Bajpe was the resource person. Speaking on the theme ‘Let Bethany increase, grow and bear fruit’, she said, “We are invited to live by the Spirit. We are to be led by Him thus bear fruit of great joy through our works of mercy and compassion.”
A life story with incidents was presented for group discussion. Members actively participated in it. The plenary was moderated by Sr Mariola, the provincial councilor. It was learnt that various aspects of the life of the servant of God R F C Mascarenhas and his love for the poor and the marginalized were depicted through the response to the questions. It was very good though provoking action.
Sr Anitha Nathalia conducted games and the winners were awarded prizes. Sr Anita Lydia compered the programme. Prayer was led by the members of Madeleine convent Mulki unit. The members of Santa Cruz unit Kulshekar, welcomed the members through welcome dance. Through an enactment by the members of Vamanjoor unit, it was brought home
that all need to deepen love for God and neighbor. Vijaya D’Costa, a member of Rosa Mystica unit, rendered the vote of thanks.
The Bethany Lay Associates were very happy to beautify their feet, in their life- style. All the members were delighted with the spiritual input and returned to their respective homes with a sense of gratitude to God and Bethany.
