Karkala, Feb 13: Out of six persons, who have been accused of being involved in two separate incidents of theft at Banglegudde area in the town about a week back, the personnel of the town police station here succeeded in arresting two on Monday February 12.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ameeruddin alias Saddam (27) from Banglegudde, and Sajid (19), resident of Belapu near Kaup in Udupi district. As per information, the other four are from Bhatkal, Kasargod and Kaup areas.
The gang had beaten up Sanjeev Nayak (62) and his wife, Yashoda (57) and snatched away gold ornaments weighing 21 sovereigns and Rs 2.5 lac in cash on February 4 after breaking open the door and gaining entry into the house when the couple was fast asleep. The couple are residents of Sri Lakshmi Nivas, Banglegudde.
On the night of February 5 theft had occurred in the house of Jayanti Shetty from Banglegudde. The thieves, who entered the house by breaking the front door, had failed to access any items of high value. Therefore, they had returned with some silver items found in the puja room.
The police could trace the location of the accused through GPS on the basis of a costly cellphone they had stolen from the house of Nayak. The house owner, who had observed the facial features of the thieves, had helped the police to draw a sketch of the thieves, which too came in handy during the operation.
