Karkala, Feb 13: “A candidate that awakens youth is necessary in the present political situation. Muniyal Udaya Kumar Shetty is the person first in the list of aspirants with such capability. It is the unanimous decision of party activists. It is the responsibility of party leaders to collect the opinion of activists,” said Congress district vice-president Nitte Nemiraj Rai.
He was speaking in the press conference in the packed gathering of party leaders held in 'Madhuvan' Miyar.
“North and south block Congress leaders were responsible for the party activities to become sluggish in Karkala during the last eight years. Not even a single programme that pulls the youth community close was held. I have brought the matter to the notice of leaders Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily in the meeting held to introspect after the party experienced humiliating defeats in last Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha, zilla, taluk and grama panchayat elections.
“The contribution of Veerappa Moily and Gopal Bhandary to unite and develop Karkala Congress is immense. Both of them are sincere politicians. Change is inevitable in the present political scenario. It is our demand that Muniyal Udaya Kumar Shetty should be the candidate in their leadership in the upcoming elections.
“The progress of Sunil Kumar can be curtailed only when Muniyal Udaya Kumar Shetty becomes Congress candidate. If that happens, Sunil Kumar may be scared to set foot in other constituencies also. Therefore, Congress will not face any setback. Sunil Kumar is trying his best to prevent Muniyal Udaya Kumar from being the candidate. The recent tourist bungalow episode is an example for it. A complaint has been registered against Congress observer G A Bava who took part in it.
“Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty should be the candidate in order to materialize the dream of national Congress president Rahul Gandhi that Congress candidates alone should win. We are prepared to work day and night so that Congress party wins with a margin of 25 thousand votes,” said Nemiraj.
He also said that innumerable party activists have submitted their opinions and description of their posts to Vidhan Parishad member V N Ugrappa when he arrived in Udupi to prepare a list of candidates for Vidhan Sabha elections on February 11.
Former zilla panchayat member Supreet Shetty, Renjala gram panchayat president Vasu Shetty, Youth Congress president Deepak Kotian, vice-president Ranjith C T, APMC member Jayaram Acharya, district minority division convener Shaikh Shabbeer, Kukkundoor gram panchayat member Rukmayya Shettigar, Miyar IT division president Daniel Ranger, Youth Congress chief secretary Taranath Kotian and others were present.
