Kundapur, Feb 13: Bus services to pilgrim centre to and from Kollur from Kundapur railway station started from February 12. The demand for direct bus to Kollur from railway station had become intense these days. There were also campaigns in Kavradi for bus service from the last two decades.

KSRTC has started the service from Kundapur railway station to Kollur.

MLA K Gopala Poojary set in motion the service for the first time. The bus will travel via Kollur, Jadkal, Vandse, Neralakatte, Valturu, Kavradi, Doopadakatte, Kandlur and Basrur road to reach Moodlakatte railway station.

The bus will travel on the basis of local school timings. From Moodlakatte railway station the bus will proceed via Basrur, Kandlur, Doopadakatte, Kavradi, Mumbaru, Valturu, Neralakate, Vandse to Kollur. The trip includes 26 stops from Kandlur Doopadakatte.

Hundreds of pilgrims arrive by trains here. Most of them alight at Kundapur station. Several of them used to get confused due to lack of information. As there was no direct bus, new pilgrims face hardship. The new service is important considering them.

There was no bus service to Kavradi. The people here have to go by rickshaw or by foot to Kandlur or Valthuru. School and college students cover a distance of about four kilometers by foot. The new bus has provided a solution for these woes. The two-decade long campaign of the people has become successful.

KSRTC president Gopala Poojary has taken special initiative for the service.

Twenty-year long campaign

The campaign demanding bus service here is two decade old. All the mediums had supported the campaign. Social activist Dinaker Shetty had brought together the villagers and led the campaign. Elected representatives supported it. On the whole, this is results of the campaign.
