Mangaluru, Feb 9: Launching a scathing attack on veteran Congressman Janardhan Poojary, Janata Dal (Secular) leader and MLA of Sorab, Madhu Bangarappa, alleged that Poojary was a ‘pure RSS man’.
Addressing media on Friday, February 9, Madhu Bangarappa said, “Poojary is one of the main factors for communal disturbances in Dakshina Kannada district. He belongs to the RSS. At the time of launch of his autobiography, he carried the book on his head and went around the temple. He was not carrying his autobiography 'Salamelada Sangrama', but the book of his sins. He insulted my father and former chief minister of Karnataka S Bangarappa in his book,"
“Poojary’s book is a compilation of lies and has given wrong information about Bangarappa. He has mentioned that my father physically assaulted former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This is baseless and false information. The mere mention of ‘physically assault’ shows the behavior of Poojary. With this mentality, he played politics and spread communal hatred in the coastal region which is continuing even this day," he added.
“He has also mentioned that Bangarappa was a corrupt person. But it is a known fact that six months before of his death, the court had acquitted him and declared that he was ‘not guilty’. Then how can Poojary say that Bangarappa was a corrupt? It clearly shows that Poojary does not believe in court or our judiciary system," he said.
“Books like autobiographies should inspire readers. But Poojary’s book is full of fabricated information. He is fooling the readers, he said.
Slamming Poojary for inviting Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for the book release ceremony, he said, “Bhat is known for his hate speeches and hatred towards other religions. Inviting him proves that Poojary had played a major role in the incidents of communal violence in the district,"
“Poojary never did any good for his community. Neither he produced any leaders from his community, nor fought against any incident of injustice involving the members of his own community. He never cried for several Billawa youths who lost their lives in incidents of violence inspired by Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. He shed tears only to oppose some Congressmen," he charged.
“Bangarappa was a noble person and people of Karnataka still remember him. Hence, things mentioned in Poojary’s book are false and condemnable,” he said.
Speaking on the upcoming elections, Madhu Bangarappa said, “JD(S) will win more seats this time. We have planned to achieve votes only through our party ideologies and manifesto. We do not use religion for election,"
“We will share 20 seats with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Discussions are also on for tie-ups with Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and Communist Party of India (CPI),” he informed.
JD(S) district president Mohammed Kunhi, leaders Ashwin Pereira, and Rakshith Suvarna were present.
