Karkala, Feb 7: Udupi DCIB inspector Sampath Kumar led police team arrested Santhosh Poojary at Bhatkal railway station on Tuesday, February 6. Santosh Poojary (27), resident of Hermunde, Patrabettu, had tried to kill his wife in cold-blood manner at Kukkudadi, Hermunde.
The operation was conducted on orders by Udupi district SP Laxman Nimbargi under the guidance of additional SP Kumar Chandra and Karkala ASP Hrishikesh Sonavani.
A police team had gone to Mumbai in search of Santosh as he was working there. They could not get any leads there. But on Tuesday, police learned that Santosh was in Bhatkal by tracking his mobile phone. Then a team went to Bhatkal to arrest him.
Anushree, Santosh’s wife, had arrived in private bus from Karkala to Thellaru at 5.45 pm on Saturday, January 27 and was walking on the pathway in front of the high school near Balaji Cultivations close to Swarna River. Santosh, her husband, who came from behind attacked her then with knife. He did not allow her to get away by severely injuring her. Her hands and legs were mutilated. She was rushed to a hospital later.
The couple was married just a year ago. Anushree, proceeding for divorce due to differences, is said to be the cause of the assault.
Santosh was taken to the spot of the crime and he will be produced in court on Wednesday.
