Mangaluru: Mini ship carrying goods to Lakshadweep drowns

Mangaluru, Feb 5: A mini ship, 'Vasheela' belonging to C P Mustafa, which had set sail from the old port area here for Lakshadweep with provisions and other items, is learnt to have drowned at a place named Kiltana. This information arrived delayed. All the six persons aboard the ship survived unscathed.

The said boat had begun its journey from the old port here at 7 am last Sunday. It was expected to reach Kiltana the next morning. But on account of the choppy sea, the boat could not reach its destination on time. At about 9 pm it reached Kiltana but at that time, the ship developed cracks at the bottom and water began to gush into the ship. The personnel of the ship tried hard to recover as many items as possible before the ship sank. However, M sand and many other items drowned along with the boat, said Abdul Latif, president of Old Port Users Association here.

The value of the drowned boat has been put at Rs 30 lac and total loss has been estimated at Rs 40 lac including cost of items which drowned.
