Mangaluru, Feb 1: Forum Fiza Mall along with Karnataka State Fire & Emergency Services conducted a fire evacuation drill at their facility to educate the people about the safety protocol to be followed during a fire emergency recently.
The control room at the mall received an emergency call at 9:48 am of a fire incident on the first floor of the mall. The assistant centre manager of the mall Fayaz M H immediately informed emergency rescue team to evacuate the building hence the customers and staff of the mall were asked to evacuate the premises in accordance with the evacuation plan. As soon as the siren blared, the customers, tenant staff and others were safely escorted out from the emergency exit and assembled at safe assembly zone of the mall. Two staffs from the terrace of the mall were rescued by using aerial ladder.
Karnataka State Fire Service team arrived at the mall and showed a demo of rescuing the casualties. Search team secured the mall elevators, checked all the toilets, electrical rooms and made sure that staff and customers assembled in the designated assembly points.
Karnataka State Fire & Emergency units arrived at the mall and educated the customers and staff about how to evacuate the building during such emergencies. They also educated customers/staff about different types of fire extinguishers and how to use them. Chief fire officer Shivashankar along with G Thippeswami (Regional Fire Officer) and their entire team along with Forum Fiza Mall team successfully completed the fire evacuation mock drill which helped everyone to understand the procedures, and ‘dos and don’ts’ during such emergencies. These mock drills will help everyone to avoid any casualties during emergencies due to fire and also ensure no one panics in such situations Fayaz M H, assistant centre manager of the mall.
