Ramanagara, Feb 1: A two-month old girl child lost her life after ragi malt fed to her got stuck in her throat on Wednesday January 31.
The incident happened at Hosapalya village. As the breast milk produced by the mother was found to be insufficient for the baby, relatives said that since the last two weeks, ragi malt was being fed to her in addition. On Wednesday, when ragi malt was being fed to the child, it appeared to have formed a lump that got stuck in the throat of the child. The child then started to writhe on account of breathlessness. Turning panicky, the family members took her to the Magadi hospital but by then the baby had breathed her last.
The child was born to Manjunath and Dhanalakshmi couple from Karenahalli village after a long wait. As the previous two pregnancies ended in abortions, the family had spent lacs of rupees this time to ensure that Dhanalakshmi's pregnancy remained safe this time. She was looked after carefully and her delivery happened at her parental home at Hosapalya village.
